Visitors from the UK can apply for a visa on arrival in South Africa, or they can apply for a visa online before travelling. Visa fees for UK citizens are R1,200 (approximately £60) for a single entry visa, R2,000 (approximately £100) for a double entry visa, or R3,600 (approximately £180) for a multiple entry visa.

Visas are required for stays of longer than 90 days, for purposes other than tourism or business, or for anyone wishing to work or study in South Africa. More information on these types of visas can be found on the website of the Department of Home Affairs.

The best time to apply for a visa is at least two weeks before your intended travel date, as processing times can vary and some visas can take longer to issue than others.
